I had a dream last night. It’s been a long time since I have dreamt, but this one felt real. I was in a large room. It looked like a palace, but we were underwater. I knew we were. All of these people were watching me, wearing masks of different colors, styles and expressions. It really creeped me out, to be honest, because they didn’t really speak. They more whispered. They had elegant ballgowns and suits adorned with pearls, lace, frills, layers, and shells. Just decked out in complete luxury. They were all dazzling, but they were all looking at me. It was as if I was in the middle of a ballroom and everyone circled me.
Ahead of me was a mountain of gold treasures, I was expecting to see a dragon, but instead, there was a guy lazily sitting on a huge throne looking right at me. He had an annoying smirk on his face while he just stared. I tried to back up, but my feet felt heavy, and when I looked down, I had shackles covered in barnacles on my feet, with a long flimsy chain connecting the two.
“Why am I chained up?” is the first thing I thought, then, “Why is this chain so long?”
Then, everyone in the ballroom starts laughing at me. I was so freaked out.
Suddenly, the guy on the throne claps twice and everyone shuts up.
Like, what?
I’m thinking this guy must be a king of some sort. Then, he gets up and starts walking down this huge mountain of gold without slipping, and it was because he was floating down!
Anyway, as he got closer, I noticed his face looked familiar. It was him.
“Dance for me, my love,” he said as he smirked, and everyone else giggled after his line.
“I don’t know any dances” I said back.
“I called you here to dance for me, and you know no dances? Why are we even doing this, then?”
I was literally baffled. So this is the exposition I get, I guess?
“Ugh.. well, since I like the way you look, I won’t cut off your head. But I’d at least like to see you dance.” He projected.
Everyone began to gossip, and then a woman in a beautiful green ball gown appeared behind me and voiced “A simple waltz should do.”
“Ah… What a wonderful Idea” the King said as he floated over to the woman and grabbed her waist, pulling her close to his side. I assumed this was the queen, and I felt a tinge of jealousy as she looked at me pitifully.
“Would anyone like to be her partner. A waltz cannot be danced without a partner. It would be horrible to have her dance alone.” The queen pleaded.
But there was only silence, and the King said “Let her dance alone. She was supposed to entertain me herself anyway, let her perform with all she has.”
They floated to the top of the horde and sat on the throne together. The queen continued to look into my eyes with pity, while the King’s leering eyes watched my body, and the music began to play.
My body just moved. I got into a position of the follower in a waltz, holding myself up and doing some simple partner dancing with no partner.
I closed my eyes and began to feel sorrow. Hundreds of eyes watching me in silence as the music began to play, and play, and play.
My arms began to feel heavy as I moved in a circle, and I was getting tired, but the music never seemed to stop.
Then, I felt my arms being held up and I felt light again. I opened my eyes and the music stopped. When I looked around, the underwater ballroom was empty. I looked down, but my feet were still shackled.
Then I woke up. I was really thirsty.
I thought I’d write it down since it had some semblance of a cohesive plot, and it seemed pretty interesting.
